Melanie Wright, Editor-in-Chief
Melanie is a senior from High Point, North Carolina, who is majoring in Public
Policy and Theater Studies. Although she's traveled Europe and North America a
little, her most exciting trip was when she spent two months living in Senegal
in summer 2007. Adventures there included multiple flat tires in the desert in
the middle of the night, a safari with ostriches that attacked the car, and a
walk to Mauritania that nearly involved getting arrested for illegally
trespassing into another country. While thrilled to have gone, she is also
glad to have safely returned to the United States.

Michelle Fang, Managing Editor and Writer
Michelle is a pre-med junior from Ocala, Florida, facing mid-college crisis—changing her mind about college majors every other day. Her most recent choice for a major is Psychology. She likes plays, thrift stores, scenic routes, and construction paper. Though her favorite place to visit is Taiwan, the place she wants to travel to most right now is Belgium or England. She hopes to live abroad for several years when she is older.

Nicholas Chan, Producer and Writer
Nicholas is a junior from Hong Kong, has three different
nationalities (British, Hong Kong/Chinese, American), and is not quite sure
why a Physics major is in charge of the magazine finances. In his
spare time he muses over how Americans would react in a Japanese
bathhouse, since any form of covering in the bathing area is
prohibited.

Lindsay Emery, Graphics Editor
Lindsay currently lives in Morgantown, West Virginia.
She is a Linguistics major and plays the harp. Her favorite trip was
going to Australia and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef (she
touched the inside of a giant clam!).

 |
Kayleigh O’Keefe, Senior Editor and Writer
Kayleigh lived in Madrid, Spain, her junior year where she enjoyed paella every Sunday, art museums, three-hour lunches, and afternoon siestas. Be careful in Barcelona, Kayleigh warns. In just 24 hours she witnessed a successful prostitution solicitation, a mid-day robbery of an Englishman by a kid, and a drug bust. Next semester, Kayleigh hopes to take drum lessons and start a band.

Sandy Sun, Senior Editor and Writer
Sandy is a senior from Boyds, Maryland. Her parents were both
chemists and subsequently named her after the element dysprosium. She
is currently majoring in Biomedical Engineering and planning to apply to
medical school. Although she would love to travel, she has not been
fortunate enough to fly to many places in the past few years (her most
recent international excursion being a trip to Niagara Falls). However,
being part of Passport allows her to live vicariously by reading about
other people's adventures.

Linda Qu, Senior Editor
Linda is a junior from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She's your typical Dukie -
besides boasting of her travel experiences in Passport, she channels her
artistic side by dancing in Chinese Folk Dance, networks madly through the
Society of Women Engineers, showcases good citizenship by volunteering at Duke
University Hospital, and augments her resume by working in a research lab. She
caps it all off with a major in Biomedical Engineering and two minors - and
somehow, she manages to do it all effortlessly and perfectly.

Julie Sogani, Senior Editor
Julie is currently a junior and Biology major. She hails from
Cresskill, New Jersey, a small surburb outside New York City. In addition to
writing for Passport, she enjoys volunteering at the Duke Medical Center, Unite
for Sight, trying new foods, and traveling the world (14 countries and counting)!

Derrik Chan, Web Design
Derrik is a sophomore Biology major hailing from
Minnesota. He enjoys travelling very much and would love
to make France his next major foreign excursion just so that he can dust off
his French and eat really, really tasty French cuisine. Derrik also likes
to sleep a lot and fool others with his magical illusions. As of right now, medical school
is part of his future plans.

Xiameng Sun, Web Design
Xiameng goes by Ellen and is a senior from Tampa, Florida, majoring in Biology, Chemistry,
and currently exploring (and enjoying) the Classical Archaeology minor. She grew up in Beijing, China, and still feels homesick after living for many years in the U.S. Her dream is to travel all over the world, in particular to Europe, to experience the diverse and fascinating cultures. She also loves nature and would often wander for hours in natural communities such as a streamside forest, simply observing.

Christina Patsiokas, Senior Editor and Writer
Christina, Trinity '08, is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She had dabbled in majors such as Engineering, Biology, Psychology, and Medival and Renaissance Studies before finally deciding upon English. She lived abroad in London in the fall of 2006 and enjoyed the splendors of Europe. She continued her travels in the fall of 2007 in Europe and China. Some her favorite memories include walking from Austria to Germany, taking buses all over England and Wales, and shopping in the markets of Shanghai and Xi'an.

Cara Stalzer, Senior Editor and Writer
Cara is a Duke graduate from Trinity '08 from Atlanta, Georgia, majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience. While
studying abroad in Italy the fall of her junior year, she enjoyed living in
the heart of Florence, within walking distance of the Duomo, the Uffizi museum,
and the famed Ponte Vecchio. Her European adventures included skydiving over
Interloken, partaking in Munich's Oktoberfest, warding off Parisians in
France, and spending White Night in Rome with no hotel. After graduation, she
intends to take a year to live and work in Europe before attending medical
school.
