This is a view of your instructor's brain as imaged on an MRI
scanner. The colored areas represented parts
of my brain that changed their activity as I was tasting a pleasant
sweet solution. These data were obtained
during an experiment using a technique called "functional" MRI in which
changes in oxygen saturation that can
be imaged are monitored and taken to reflect changes in brain metabolic
activity and thus brain neural activity
during a period in which the subject is doing something of experimental
interest..
