Our Process
There are so many ways to get involved with the Peer Education Training program. Although we have had students from all avenues of the Duke population, there are two primary groups of students that begin the Peer-Education Training:
Type 1
Excitement, energy, and no affiliation with the CRR
Students who are passionate and motivated about making a change in race and human relations at Duke, but have not been previously involved with the Center for Race Relations, make up about half of the P.E.T. program's graduates. If this sounds like you, we welcome you to the CRR!
The P.E.T. program is a great way to initiate your work with the Center. Upon graduation from the program, these students frequently plan and implement dialogues through the DORR department, apply for leadership in Common Ground, or work to train future student leaders in the P.E.T. department itself.
Type 2
Participate in one of the CRR's campus activities with no previous CRR leadership experience
Maybe you have talked in a CRR dialogue, maybe you enrolled in a house course, or maybe you applied for Common Ground, but something sparked your interest in the CRR and now you want to get more involved. The Peer-Education department is the primary avenue for leadership at the Center.
After receiving training in leadership skills and human relations facilitation, you will be prepared to take on new positions in your own department or perhaps get involved in a totally new department of the CRR. Come get trained today!
