Anna Raven-Hansen
Former Co-Director of Common Ground
Anna Raven-Hansen has been heavily involved with diversity and multicultural initiatives since high school. Upon matriculation at Duke, Anna became a member of the CRR, applied for Common Ground, participated in DORRs, and signed up for the training program.
Combining the experiential learning of Common Ground with the intense Peer Education Training Program, Anna quickly became one of the most qualified applicants for Co-Director of Common Ground and was elected to this position in Winter 2003. Anna's simultaneous involvement in many parts of the Center stemmed naturally from her high school leadership experience.
“I have been to a lot of training programs, but this one is the best yet.”
Dinah Hannaford
DORR facilitator
Dinah Hannaford became involved with the Center for Race Relations in the first semester of her senior year. Guided by the principle, "It's never too late," Dinah began the training program and became actively involved in planning DORR sessions, specifically about women's issues.
Since Dinah was not involved in one of the Center's four departments before beginning the training program, she used the training as a launching point to become a leader in DORRs and has observed and co-facilitated several dialogues in her first semester of involvement.
“I’m really glad to have found the Center in my last year here at Duke.”
"It's very easy to become jaded with the student-run organizations on campus that are complacent and stuck in huge ruts of inaction and internal politics. I feel that the Center for Race Relations is actually making change and performing important duties, largely due to the energy and enthusiasm that [the leaders] consistently bring to it."
