The Archive for Human Rights is part of Duke University's Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library.  Its mission is to identify, collect, and provide access to materials generated by organizations and individuals working within and having significant impact on the field of human rights. Working in close partnership with the Duke Human Rights Center, the Archive is a key component of Duke University's commitment to social justice, social equality, and social responsibility.
Human rights are not only at risk abroad. At home, we face a new era when violations like torture and unfair imprisonment are the fodder of daily news. At Duke, there is a complex history of abuses, among them slavery, that the university community has been a part of, confronted, overlooked and ultimately engaged with, beginning with the lives of the founders, the Duke family.
