pdate: I am currently (still) at flight school. I finished Primary (10 wks), and I'll be finishing up Instruments (8 wks) next week. I should know which aircraft I'll be flying for the Army by May 2...hopefully blackhawks. Right now for training we fly the Bell 206 (TH-67), which are the little news helicopters.

The picture is me in the old UH-1 Huey simulators, which we are in for the first 4 weeks of Instruments. Instruments is the phase when they teach you to fly solely by the gauges, your maps, approach plates, and instructions from the Air Traffic Controller. In the simulators the windows are all white (simulate clouds) and in the real aircraft they make you put on vision restrictors and some curtains so you can't cheat. It's actually pretty interesting and fun.

The other picture is a shot from the copilot's seat also in the simulator. You can see my kneeboard and approach plates, both are strapped to your legs in flight. My gloves are there too. I guess I should have been wearing them in the picture.

I trust all is going well at Duke. Enjoy graduation and commissioning! What is happening to the cadre after this school year?

Debbie
