Dennis Williams

Hello,

Here is a picture of me after Ranger graduation on July 8th, holding my patrol cap with "drive on" tab, which is the tab 1LT Ford got at his Ranger graduation last year. After Ranger School I went to Fort Hood, TX, and I am now a troop headquarters platoon leader in B Troop, 4-9 CAV, which is the CAV (recon) squadron of 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. HQ platoon consists of the mortars section, plus the logistics, personnel, and training NCOs. I am also the troop FSO, according to the MTOE. Once a recon platoon leader slot is open in the squadron, I will take that position.

Our troop is in the red phase of the training cycle. Our guys just came back from Iraq in April, and switched from a tank battalion to a recon squadron in May, as part of the transition into the Unit of Action systems architecture. Right now we have no vehicles and have about 45% personnel strength. All resources in the division are being allocated to 3rd Brigade, which is supposed to deploy first next year; we will probably deploy again in the fall of 2006. Training should start ramping up again starting this week with M4 qualification, and once we start getting vehicles (Humvees and Bradleys) we will have our hands full.

I hope all is going well.

2LT Williams
