Sweat: This may refer to "sweating-sickness", defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "a febrile disease characterized by profuse sweating, of which highly and rapidly fatal epidemics occurred in England in the 15th and 16th centuries". This could also refer to the plague, or the "sweating-tub" which was a treatment for syphilis. |

To the right: This image is the engraved titlepage of a Latin comedy, Cornelianum Dolium, by "T. R." published in 1638. The top inscription reads: "Farewell, O sexual pleasures and lusts"; the lower, "I sit on the throne of love, I suffer in the tub." |
