Benefits
Wine has been said to have health benefits for almost as long as it has been around, providing individuals with pleasant experiences. However, in recent years, the health benefits beyond mere superstition have been verified through experimtns. Some of the most important developments have recently shown that drinking moderate amounts of wine may reduce a person's risk of having a heart attack or developing some sort of heart disease. It has been said that wine is "The most healthy and hygenic of all drinks", and with this information it seems as if that statement may be partially true. In French culture people often drink wine multiple times a day in moderate amounts; however, they still maintain a diet high in saturated fat. What is interesting about these people is that they actually have lower risk of heart disease than individuals in other countires where people have comparative diets but do not drink wine with their meals. Additionally, wine helps prevent cancer because it contains large amounts of antioxidants, which help eliminate free radicals from the body. With all of these beneficial health reports, it makes sense that wine consumption is on the rise in the United States and many other countries around the world. Despite all of the benefits associated with the consumption of wine, there are dangers and health issues associated with its consumption as well. The more obvious of these issues relates to the effects any type of alcohol has on the body; making a person have slower reaction times, blurred vision, and difficulty making decisions. Other issues deal with the opposite effects of what was mentioned above in the benefits. The key word in the benefits section is moderation. When wine consumption moves from moderation into excess, instead of being a deterrent to heart disease, wine may actually increase your risk of heart attacks. Also, as with any alcohol consumption, drinking in excess may cause liver damage which may lead to death if left untreated. |
