PRODUCTION PROCESS

Bulk Distributor/ Distribution Process

The bulk distributor is responsible for receipt, storage, dispatch, processing, sampling and analysis of the bulk wine as well as responsible for keeping detailed accounts of what types of wine have been received from the wine producers and what has been dispatched/ sold throughout the wine industry. The bulk wine distributor can approve or reject the wine from the wine producer. From the bulk distributor the wine is sent to the transit cellar where the wine is prepared for onward sale and filling. The transit cellar has sends batches of bulk wine to the filler/packer, which is also a means for upgrading along the value chain because filer and packers create the bottles and labels used as a means for marketing. For many regions value is added by outsourcing the label and bottling process in order to meet the needs of the regions they are importing into. The filler/packer essentially receives the containers of bulk wine from the transit cellars or the bulk distributors and during this process the wine is filled into different kinds of containers, such as bottles, bags, kegs or barrels. The next step is the packaging of the bottles, whatever form is being distributed to the consumer. There is a link between the bulk wine and finished product that is essential to upgrading not only in later terms of marketing the product but in terms of bottling according to the appropriate regions tastes and specifications.
