The distribution and retailing process if closely connected as the distributor manages the inventory and dispatches the final goods to the consumer. The retailer receives the finished goods and sells it either though means of retail stores or wine distributors. As picture of the overview of the wine demonstrates (previous page) there is an ongoing process that has shifted the wine industry from a production orientated to a markets industry focused for a large part on retailers and communication with the consumers.
The power of wholesalers in the wine industry is undeniable however; retailers have stepped up by offering local sales teams in the market niches. Local sales teams are being integrated into the cost of selling for wineries. These local sales teams on the retailers level will make the industry more profitable and more competitive.
