Triathlon Club co-President wins Nation's Triathlon
September 2009
The Duke Triathlon Club was well represented at this year's Nation's Triathlon in Washington D.C.,
an olympic distance triathlon where over 6,000 triathletes were registered.
- Morgan Anderson won the Female 20-24 Age Group in just her second ever triathlon
- Andrew Coleman finished 11th in the Male 25-29 Age Group
- Brian Duffy won the overall race with a time of 1:55:59

Rob Ferris Qualifies for World Championships in Kona, HI

Congratulations to Rob Ferris on his race at Ironman Wisconsin on September 13, 2009,
where he placed 2nd in the 25-29 Age-Group gaining him entry into the 2010 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii!

Shelly Bloom Competes in World Championships in Australia
September 2009
Shelly Bloom competed in the Aquathlon and Triathlon World Championships in Australia.
For the Aquathlon, Shelly took 3rd place in the Female 55-59 age group with a time of 46:10 (1st US finisher).
Shelly also completed the olympic-distance triathlon in 2:40:44 to take 16th place in her age group (4th US finisher).

Saxby Clark Stradinger Competes in Cane Creek Triathlon

Congratulations to Saxby Clark Stradinger, who completed his first triathlon. Saxby completed the Cane Creek Sprint Triathlon
in Waxhaw, NC on September 19, 2009 with an overall time of 1:29:03.

Duke Triathletes Compete in World Duathlon Championships

For her last race of the season, Shelly Bloom places 8th in her age group (F55-59) with a time of 2:30:15.
She was the 4th US finisher. Suzanne Bay, Duke Triathlon Club co-president, also competed and finished with
a time of 2:23:28.

Duffy With Another First Place Finish

Brian Duffy took first place overall in
The Best of the US Triathlon in Mission Viejo, CA.
The race consisted of the top male and female amateur triathletes from each of the 50 states, and Brian
represented Pennsylvania. his overall time of 1:52:53 was a personal best and 2:07 ahead of the second place finisher.

It was another great showing for Duke Triathlon this past Weekend. The club
had a massive representation at the

- Morgan Anderson - 4:56:53 First Place W20-24 and First Overall Female Finisher (This was her First Half-Ironman)
- Ashley Black - 6:13:33 Second Place W20-24

- Andrew Coleman - 5:02:54 Third Place M25-29

Duke Triathlon Represented at Pinehurst and Rambling Rose

Paul Bloom, Terence Costello, Erik Newman, and Noah Pickus all had a great showing in the
Pinehurst Triathlon.
Michelle Heymann competed in her FIRST EVER Rambling Rose Triathlon and loved every minute of it!
Michelle is already setting goals for a sprint distance next spring.

Brian Duffy Wins Toyota U.S. Open Elite Amateur Championship

Brian Duffy won his final race of the season on Sunday at the Toyota U.S. Open Elite Amateur Championship in Dallas, Texas.
Brian, who was coming off his victory at the Best of the U.S. Amateur National Championship two weeks ago,
used another strong race in cold and rainy conditions to defeat the best amateur triathletes in the country.
On the longer than usual Olympic distance course, Brian took over the lead at the 1 mile mark on the run and
never looked back holding off the next Elite Amateur by just 5 seconds with a time of 2:00:20! Brian finished
his season with 6 victories in his 7 races--Philadelphia Insurance Elite Amateur, Avalon Islandman Sprint Overall,
Nautica New York City Elite Amateur, Nation's Triathlon Overall, Best of the U.S. Championship Overall, U.S. Open
Elite Amateur Championship Overall. According to some USAT officials, he will be a lead contendor for the 2009 USA
Triathlon Overall Amateur Athlete of the Year!

Duke Triathlon Club Recognized by Duke University
October 2009
The Duke Triathlon Club is now officially recognized by Duke University as a Club sport.
Recognition by the University will allow the Triathlon club to have more access to facilities and storage.
The club will also receive additional funding through the Club Athletic Department,
and it will have opportunities to represent Duke while competing at the Collegiate Regional and National levels.
