Budgets
and Proposals for Summer Enrichment
Budget Preparation
The University Scholars Program will provide up to a maximum of
$7000 in funding for a summer enrichment experience after your junior
year.
| Tuition/Fees |
If you’re going on a Duke Study Abroad
program, scholars and/or students on Financial Aid do NOT
need to leave the deposit required early to reserve their
spot. You’ll just need to alert the Study Abroad folks
that you’re a University Scholar, and they should waive
the fee. I’ll be happy to provide a letter, if necessary.
If you’re going on a non-Duke program, please convert
foreign currencies into US dollars for your budget. |
| Room/Housing |
Find the least expensive accommodations if there are none
offered through study abroad or internship programs or if you’re
planning own research project. Check budget travel guides like
“Let’s Go”, “Lonely Planet”, etc. |
| Board/Food |
If it’s not included in study abroad/internship or if
you’re doing your own research, check budget travel guides
for estimates on daily food costs. Again, try for cheap, plentiful,
and reasonably healthy fare. 4 star restaurants are not covered! |
| Airfare/Travel |
Include airfare first, since most expensive, then budget for
necessary in-country travel. |
| Books |
If required for coursework. |
| Miscellaneous |
Visa / Passport fees
International Student I.D.
Immunizations
Taxes or Entry Fees to Foreign Countries
Permits/Fees
Materials and Equipment costs |
