Peter Limbrick, "Director Emeritus."
Peter
Limbrick was director of the University Scholars Program from
its inception until July 2001. Peter was born in Akaroa, New Zealand,
and holds a BA Honours and M.A. in English from the University
of Otago, and a PhD in Cinema Studies from La Trobe University,
Melbourne (Australia). He moved from New Zealand to Australia
in 1994 to begin his graduate work, and during 1995-96 he was
an exchange student in the Critical Studies Program of the Department
of Film and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles. He
also taught for 2 years in the Film and Video Program at Duke.
His research interests include the history and theory of film,
television, and digital media, theories of race, gender, and sexuality,
and postcolonial theory. He moved with his wife to San Francisco in 2001, and is currently Associate Professor in the Film and Digital Media Department at the University of California Santa Cruz. He will continue to be a West Coast advisor
to the program in the future.
