Spencer Eldred from Palm Desert, California, is pursuing a double major in Environmental Science and Policy and in Political Science, and has a strong interest in development, human rights and environmental sustainability. Spencer interned after his sophomore year with a development NGO in India and interned after his junior year with the US State Department in Greece . He has studied away in Russia, the Duke Marine Lab and Spain. Outside the classroom, Spencer is active in Duke Student Government, where he is Vice President of Student Affairs. He has helped found several clubs and organizations while at Duke, and is President of Duke's American Civil Liberties Union, National Organization for Women, Slavic and Eurasian Studies Association, and Native American Student Alliance. Spencer is also heavily involved with the Duke Political Union, Relay for Life and Alpha Phi Omega. In his free time, he enjoys writing, community service, cooking and tenting for Duke Basketball. After graduation, Spencer is considering law school, master's programs in development or gainful employment. |

Michal Koszycki is a native of Warsaw, Poland. At Duke Michal created an independent program of study entitled "Designs Shaping the World." His self-designed curriculum aims at an interdisciplinary study of design. Under three titles of Visual Design, Ideological Design, and the Science of Design, Michal attempts to come to terms with many of the conventional academic disciplines from a designer's perspective. In accordance with his program's intention, Michal's time at Duke has been a challenging and rewarding intellectual experience. He hopes to continue his exploration at a Master's of Architecture program next year. During his time at Duke, Michal has also taken the opportunity to travel and approach the career of an architect. This summer, the Visual Arts Fellowship, the University Scholars Program Summer Research Scholarship and the Benenson Award in The Arts allowed him to participate in a Career Discovery Program at Harvard, as well as to travel to Italy for an architectural, historical reconstruction project. Michal has recently been accepted to the Phi Beta Kappa society in recognition of his academic performance. |

Anne Llewellyn is an English and Medieval/Renaissance Studies
double-major from Montgomery, Alabama. She hopes to pursue a PhD in
English, specializing in medieval literature of the fourteenth
century. She also plans on utilizing an interdisciplinary approach in
her studies, integrating social, political, and economic history;
linguistics; theology; philosophy; and dramatic and visual arts into
the study of literature. She used her USP summer funding to
participate in the 2008 Duke in London program, where she studied
drama. She currently serves as Senior Warden on the Vestry of the the
Episcopal Center at Duke and enjoys horseback riding at a nearby farm
in Hillsborough. |

Lisa Ma (Trinity '10) is studying political science as an American government concentration. She is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honors society, and she also has a minor in Chinese language and literature. She has served a year-long term as the Editorial Page Editor for The Chronicle, Duke's independent student daily, and is also involved as a disciplinary advisor for the Undergraduate Office of Student Conduct. In the past, Lisa has interned with Public Defender Service, Ascend Media, Smith Barney, and the Los Angeles Superior Court. She hopes to pursue a career in criminal law as a public defender. In her spare time, she enjoys eating breakfast foods. |

Niti Parthasarathy was born in Raleigh, NC, and grew up in Greer, South Carolina. She attended Southside High School in Greenville, SC for two years before completing her high school education at the South Carolina Governor's School of Arts and Humanities. At both schools, she was involved in numerous extracurricular activities. She earned 11th place in the Debate Nationals, served as Student Body President, Junior Marshal and AP Scholar, and on the executive council of the community service club CATS. Niti, whose parents are from India, was also active in the Indian Youth Association. She is fluent in Tamil and Hindi, and would like to add Russian to the list. In addition to multiple awards in Debate, Niti has also won numerous honors and awards for Piano. Although she did not play varsity tennis in high school, Niti is a huge fan of the sport, and hopes to enhance her skills in college. At Duke, she plans to study International Relations, Economics, History, and International Studies, and to continue her musical training in piano. |
