The following
activities generally occur weekly, barring University break periods
or other special scheduled events. Any questions of a general nature can be directed
to our student pastors, Katie Kimrey and Edward Holt. For the most up to date information on upcoming events, check our calendar.
Sunday
6:00pm: Wesley Congregation
We'll meet at Asbury United Methodist Church for dinner and then engage in our weekly meeting. During this time we investigate
issues of faith and consider the implications to our lives as Christians.
Monday
8:00pm: Freshman Small Group - Belltower 110
Amidst the turmoil of the first semester at Duke, this is a time
to set aside for all Wesley freshman to discuss their experiences
and remember that there is always a community to support them
during stressful times.
Tuesday
5:30 pm: Prayer Meeting - Wesley Office (Chapel Basement)
We will meet together for group and silent prayer over joys and concerns within the group.
8:00 pm: Senior Vocational Discernment - Jenny's House (starts September 22)
There's more to being a senior than having a ready-made answer to the
question, "What are you going to do when you graduate?" Other important
aspects of graduation include ongoing discernment about what kind of values
will influence the decisions you make throughout life, where and how you
will find others who share those values, and what you will do when things
don't work out the way you thought they would. The Wesley Senior Small
Group meets each week to share job prospects and grad school acceptances,
but more importantly to discuss our perspective on life and in particular,
the practices of a Christian Life.
Wednesday
6:00
pm: Weekly Eucharist - Wesley Office
Each Wednesday that classes are held during the academic year, Wesley will
celebrate Eucharist in the Wesley office in the Duke Chapel basement.
Thursday
7:30
pm: Luke Bible Study - Wesley House
Who was Luke? What did he have to say about issues of social justice? How does the Gospel according to Luke speak to us today? In this small group on the Book of Luke, we will grapple with and attempt to answer these and other relevant questions. During our time together, we will read Luke's Gospel several times, engage in exegesis--digging deeper into what the text has to say--and seek out what the text has to offer us as followers of Christ. This will be a challenging study and a great opportunity to grow in faith and wisdom through an in-depth study of God's holy word.
