History
The Wind Symphony used to tour Vienna during the spring semester each year. One of the traditions that Wind Symphony members brought back with them was the Viennese Ball. Running since 1974, the Duke Wind Symphony Viennese Ball is the longest-running student-led event of its kind in the country.

Viennese Ball Tradition The Viennese Ball features a Polka Band and a Waltz Orchestra led by our students. Dress is semi-formal to formal, and while a small group every year comes in full traditional dress, such elaborate attire is not necessary. In addition to open dancing to the live music, there are a number of special events and features, including:

  • A selection of light refreshments
  • Free Dance Lessons from 7:00-8:00pm
  • Interactive dances for everyone to join in
  • A performance of the traditional Viennese Promenade by members of the Wind Symphony
  • Semi-formal or formal attire
  • Transportation will be provided from the West Campus Bus Stop to the Armory between 6:30pm and 12:30pm
  • Tickets will be sold on the BC Plaza and in front of Marketplace, as well as at the door the night of the Ball.

    Ticket Prices:
    Duke Students (Cash/Flex): $10.00
    General Admission: $12.00
