Co-sponsored with the Graduate and Professional Women's Network (GPWN). Meet incoming students from throughout the university at our inaugural event! A panel of women from the graduate and professional schools will share their experiences and tips for surviving at Duke. This informative evening offers a safe space to explore the "how to's" and "why not's" of graduate life as well as a great opportunity to network with women both within and outside of your school or department. A lunch discussion with Sharon Keilthy, Managing Director of The Asian Institute. Sharon has done her BE in Mechanical Engineering, and is the founder and Managing Directress of ‘The Asian Institute’. Having lived and worked in China and Singapore, she speaks excellent Mandarin and has a comprehensive understanding of the Chinese culture, thinking and approach. Join us for lunch as Sharon speaks to us about her experiences in starting her own consulting company. Lunch provided.

Terri Helmlinger, 2003-2004 President of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), was the first woman president since the Society's founding in 1934. She joins us in a discussion of not only the path to her current position, but also her plans to increase the diversity of NSPE. Terri is executive director of North Carolina State's Industrial Extension Service, established to help North Carolina's industries. She received her bachelor's degree in engineering operations from NC State in 1978 and her master's of business administration from Duke University in 1985. Lunch provided.

Tour of the Duke Forest and Picnic Lunch

Come along with your family for a guided tour (2 hours) of Duke Forest, Duke University’s laboratory for teaching and research in the natural sciences. The tour will give insight into the various species of plant life and ongoing research. After the tour join us, as we picnic in the cool autumn air. Picnic lunch provided.
