Independent Study | ||
| Independent study enables a student to pursue
individual research and reading in a field of special interest, under the
supervision of a member of the faculty. A student can enroll in an independent
study in any semester, with the consent of the instructor and the Director
of Undergraduate Studies in the instructor's department. When enrolled in
an independent study course, students are expected to pursue specific inquiry
through library or archival reading or through fieldwork. A substantive
paper is a requirement for all independent study courses, and the paper
must be submitted during the semester of enrollment in the course. Women’s Studies offers specific research independent study course numbers that carry a research (R) designation. We also offer other independent study course numbers that do not count toward research requirements. Independent study courses cannot count toward satisfying anygeneral studies requirement except for the research designation. Students are required to complete an Application for Independent Study (pdf) prior to registration. The application should include a description of the project and should be submitted to the instructor for approval. The form is then turned in to Lillian Spiller. Box 90760. Students will be notified via e-mail when their Independent Study is approved and issued a permission number to register. |
