HOW
TO MAKE A FIRE
Since every overnight trip should include a campfire (and s'mores!), it
is a good idea to go over basic fire safety and rules with the kids prior
to going on a trip. Here's a fun way to teach them how a campfire is made
and why we construct them certain ways!
You will need : red hots, for the ambers
corn flakes, for the kindling
thin pretzl rods, for the logs
M&M's, for the stones surrounding the fire (a
necessity!)
Pass out the rations of candy and explain that it will be eaten, but they
ahve to wait! Then, construct little "fires" at the same time, discussing
each part as you go. Talk about why most fires are made to look like tee-pees,
and about why there are stones around the outside!
