DUSON was named a Center of Excellence in Technology and awarded $1.43 million over five years by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the training of nursing faculty from across the United States on the latest in educational and clinical practice technology.
Awards and recognition
Elizabeth Clipp was the 2007 Distinguished Contributions to Nursing Science Awardee.
Catherine Gilliss was awarded a doctor of human letters, honoris causa, from the University of Portland, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award for Research from the International Society for Family Nursing (June 2007, Bangkok).
Brenda Nevidjon became the president-elect of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
Marva Mizell Price became a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP).
Sue Schneider received the 2006 Oncology Nursing Society Excellence in Cancer Nursing Research Award.
Nancy Short was named one of North Carolina’s “Great 100” nurses by The Great 100, a statewide peer recognition organization.
Florence S. Wald, founder of American Hospice Movement, received a doctor of human letters, honoris causa, from Duke University. Wald is the first nurse to receive an honorary degree from Duke.
Ruby L. Wilson, professor emerita and former dean of DUSON, was awarded the University Medal.

Diane Holditch-Davis was named Marcus Hobbs Professor of Nursing at Duke.
Mary Champagne was named interim associate dean for Academic Affairs.
Debra Mattice became director of Academic Support Operations.
Mary Holtschneider became director of the Center for Nursing Discovery.
Susan Glenn became executive director of External Affairs.
Nancy Short was named chair of the ABSN program.
Kathleen Sikkema was named professor.
Major gifts
Bettye Martin Musham made a $700,000 bequest to the William Musham Memorial Scholarship.
Ruby Wilson donated $500,000 to name the Ruby L. Wilson Patient Assessment Lab.
Peter and Nancy Coll gave $100,000 to establish the Nancy Swan and Peter Coll Scholarship.
Laura Kahn donated $100,000 to establish the Laura Kay Hunger School of Nursing Scholarship.
Judith Snyderman gave $100,000 to establish the Herman and Rose Krebs Scholarship Endowment.
Dr. Scholl Foundation gave $100,000 to the Dr. Scholl Foundation Scholarship Fund.
