Computer Science Autobiography

I first started using computers at around first grade. Didn't really do much at that point, but learned alot about dos commands and internal compontents. Since then I have only really owned PCs. I use MACs infrequently and know very little about how it operates. Now, I basically use computer to watch films, play computer games and sometimes do a little internat messaging. I considered studying computer science after taking a course in C++ in high school. The course didn't cover very much coding, but instead we focused on examples of professional code and products of programing in the world today. The prospect of writing such programs inspired the idea of becoming a computer programmer. In my opinion I believe a computer programmer writes and debugs code all day. Most of my actual programing experience happened at Duke. However, my least favorite assignmet came in London last semester when I had to figure out how to write code to compand a 44.1kHz sound wave. It took days and the code kept failing, not because it was totally wrong. I was using numbers too close to zero. So the code looked right but the program always failed. My favorite experience came simultaneously when I had to use assembly code to turn roman numerals into their numeral equivalent. It was exciting to be writing dense code clearly understand what I am doing. The program took almost no debuging. In the future I see myself writing more device drivers than anything else. I believe the skills I learn in this concentration will be used to develop hardware/ software interaction.
