Elephants

Mike Wagner and Graham Campbell

We chose the elephant because it's big and everyone knows what it is. Elephants are the largest land mammals alive. The elephant is threatened by human poaching in search of valuable products such as ivory. Elephants are known worldwide of their distinctive trunks, which serve a variety of purposes. Elephants utilize their trunks for everything from consuming plants to self-defense.

Elephants also have tusks. These tusks are used for digging, debarking trees, marking territory, and occasionally for defense. An adult male's tusks will grow seven inches a year, on average.
