Dear Caroline
As I promised to write again before Leaving, I shall now attempt to do it, in My Own Simple way. In the first place You Must Know that we were anxious to Go Together, that is our Company which Consists of Col McLemore, Myself, H. May & H. Burr. Mr May & Myself were Ready, but the rest were not. Consequently must wait until the Next Steamer, which will be on the 11th of Jany. At that Time we expect to Sail. You no doubt think I am enjoying Myself Here, it is True I am in Some respects, at Least I am to do So, to Kill Time. But the Truth is I feel verry much unsettled. I either want to Go or return, where I can enjoy myself with You and the Children. Oh Speaking of the Children, How did they Spend Christmas did they Hang up their Stockings. Tell them I should Like to Have been their to fill their Stockings. I Have been Looking for a word from You for some time, & feel quite disappointed in not Hearing a word Since I Left You. You May Possibly Have Time to write Me in answer to this. At any rate You can write & if I do not Get it, Addeline will forwarded it To Me. Tomorrow Eunice & Myself intends Going to Methewn, for a few days. Mother is not very Smart Just now, Having Her old Complaint Rheumatism, Addeline intends to Go South this winter & Leave Mar & Eunice to Reep House Here. As regards Myself I Have enjoyd Good Health ever Since I Left You & Hope this will find you & the Children & all the Rest enjoying the Same Good Blessing. We Have an Abundance of Snow this way & if You have as much at Como I hope You will make Reuben Keep a plenty of wood up. I will see that everything is Settled up before Leaving to the Satisfaction of Yourself & my Creditors. Kiss all the Children fore me & tell them to the Good & Go to school
from Your Loving Husband
