Dear Caroline

I now Sit down to write You for the Last Time from this Place as we Leave Tomorrow Morning for NY & Leave on the 13th in the [steamer] empire City for California. Eunice Goff Goes On to N york with us. Mr. May & myself, Col McLemore and Henry Burr will not Go in this Steamer but will follow Soon. Now My own Dear wife, I Have been Here a Good while & regret exceedingly that I Could Not Get One word from You or from Como before Leaving. As regards my affairs & to make You Happy, I Have arranged it with Addeline to see everything Settled to Your Satisfaction although Not So Readily as I Expected. I Have Just Place in Addelines Hands one Hundred and fifty dollars to be paid into Hands of Amidown & Co for which they will Notify Holmes & Hapgood & You Can draw from them, the Ballance 150 more will also be Coming Shortly, as Addeline is Short of Friends at Present, but I feell fully assured She will Comply with all my requests as She Has always done. Now for a few words of Consolation as it is 12 o clock at night & every soul is in Bed & I Have My Trunk to Pack up Yet. My Dear Caroline rest assured that My whole Aim is for Your Comfort & them Dear Children. I want You Keep up Your Good Spririts & think it all for the Best, that I am about to take Such a Journey, & May I Have Your Good Prayers of [success?]. Kiss the Children of the for Me & remind them of their old Papa & if it is Gods Pleasure for Me to Prosper the Shall one day all be made Happy. Remember Me to all My Kind Friends & receive the most affectionate Regards from Your Loving Husband
