CompSci 108 - Spring 2005

I have had a computer in the house ever since I can remember.  The first was a Commodore 64 (originally purchased for my older brother) which I fell in love with.  On my beloved C64, I wrote my first computer programs, in the superbly structured language known as BASIC:
    10 PRINT "AARON RULES"
    20 GOTO 10
Additionally, the machine had some of the greatest games made for it of all time (Maniac Mansion, Mail Order Monsters, Champions of Krynn).  Amazingly enough, this computer is still hooked up and working, and I use it whenever I feel able to handle 5 minute loading times at the beginning of my games (fastdrive my butt!).

Since my (beloved) C64, I have owned a succession of DOS (and then Windows) based PC's.  I also dual-boot Linux, but I don't use it much because it can't boot my games.  Thankfully, I have been altogether successful in avoiding the one-button-mouse plague known as the Mac (which also can't boot my games...).  My best programming experience was coding a game in C++ (complete with graphics, sound and a GUI) when I was supposed to be listening to lectures in CompSci class at high school.  My worst was attempting a moderately complex OO program in C++ which ended in failure due to the damnable things known as linking errors.  As for what I plan to do with CS, I know I want to become a researcher, I just don't quite know in what.
