ROBERTS' VIEW OF TWENTIETH-CENTURY EUROPEAN HISTORY
European civil war ended the dominance of Europe in the world.
This is not the same as ending "Western" dominance - if American
represents the West.
But maybe ultimately it is the end of European dominance.
There can be no history of Europe in the twentieth century that does not
include world-history.
