There is a long list of synonyms for this species and it is likely that others will be added after revision of all tropical taxa. This species has not been thoroughly studied.

Description:
For descriptions and figures see Koponen & Norris (1996) and Allen (2002).

Distribution:
It is a widespread species at tropical latitudes and has been reported from Mediterranean areas of Europe just three times:
(1) Spain, Sierra Nevada, 1974 leg. Knabe, ster. (Frahm 1976). I have not seen the specimen, however, from the precise illustration in Frahm (1976) the collection can be named as Philonotis seriata.
(2) Madeira (Koppe & Düll 1986 in Duell 1992, specimen not seen).
(3) Turkey (leg. Hinz, det. Duell, in Duell 1992, specimen not seen).
