About Wojo

Steve Wojciechowski, a 5'11" senior point guard, is one of two players (Trajan Langdon) to start all 33 games for the Blue Devils last season. He happens to be the only player in Duke history to go from receiving the Glenn E. "Ted" Mann Award (1995, 1996), which is given to the reserve who contributes most to team morale, to winning the Swett-Baylin Award (1997), which goes to the team's Most Valuable Player. Wojo was second team All-ACC last season, made the ACC All-Defensive team, and was also named to the ACC All-Academic team.

Wojo was named to the 3rd team All-ACC for the 1997-98 season and was an honorable mention to the AP All-American team. Wojo was also the NABC National Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Duke player since Grant Hill to receive the Henry Iba Corinthian award. He received the MVP award for the Maui Invitational in November where he achieved his career high 11 assists in the opener against Chaminade and shut down Mike Bibby in the final game versus Arizona. Wojo and Trajan are the only two players to have started all 36 games this season. At the 1997-98 Duke Basketball Banquet, Wojo was named Best Defensive Player along with Shane Battier, and was also given the Captains Award and the award for most assists.

Wojo led the ACC last season with 2.5 steals per game and was a Henry Iba Corinthian National Defensive Player of the Year Candidate. He was also the ACC's quickest player to steal in 1996-97, stealing the ball an average of every 12.6 minutes he played. Wojo finished his career at Duke with 203 steals, the 5th most of any Blue Devil ever. Thomas Hill, who is now in 7th place in career steals, did something remarkable when he finished his career at Duke with more steals than turnovers. Wojo did the same as he ended his career with 202 career turnovers which is one shy of his career number of steals. Wojo finished the season 5th place (tied with Christian Laettner's 1992 figure) in season steals with 74, which was tied for second-best in the ACC.

Not only did Wojo lead the ACC in assist to turnover ratio, but Wojo made the all-time season assist-turnover ratio record at Duke last season with 3.03 assists to every turnover. His career assist-turnover ratio of 2.50 is the 3rd best all-time career assist-turnover ratio in the ACC and the best ever at Duke.

Wojo was 2nd in the ACC in assists for the 1996-97 season with 176, and fourth in the ACC for the 1997-98 season with 164. He finished his career with 505 assists, placing him under just 5 former Duke Basketball players in history.

Wojo tied the record for best three-point field goal percentage (85.7%) in a single game when he scored his career-high 18 points on 6-of-7 three point shooting against North Carolina on March 2, 1997. Trajan and Bobby Hurley also hold that record. Although his career field-goal percentage is only 39%, Wojo was the ACC player who improved his field goal percentage the most between the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons. He improved 12.5%, from .318 to .443. His senior year, he was 5th in the ACC in three point percentage.
