The historical rivalry between the United States and Russia is one where many resolutions have been attempted, yet none have been reached. Every four years, this rivalry is intensly renewed on the hallowed grounds of various national countries hosting the Olympics, and due to this, the US-Russian rivalry might be prolonged until competition between the two countries impede. Because of the potential of this rivalry to continue for many years, I believe that this rivalry will only be brought to an end if the competitions between the US and Russia are brought to an end. If the two countries can't compete against one another, then there will not be a rivalry between them. The issues which led to the rivalry are those concerning the Cold War, and the 1980 and 1984 Olympics. These issues instigated this rivalry by placing the reputation of both nations in the world-wide spotlight, during a time of intense war between them.
