The Palestinian people completely reject the State of Israel, believe that they should have their own State, and believe that violence is the best way to dismantle Israel's economy, government, and overall well being. In the last 20th century, they began promoting violence as a necessary means to their young children, dressing them up as suicide bombers and training them with guns. They began to target places where civilians were likely to be such as eateries and buses. What this violence fails to achieve is any recognition from the world that the Palestinian’s goal to rid Israel as a state is legitimate. This is because they are targeting civilians and when civilians are targeted nothing is accomplished, no military bases are destroyed and no military or government personnel are affected. The only result is terror and hatred, not acknowledgement of a goal.
The Jewish people believe that Israel should be a state because they believe that the land is holy and was promised to them. The Palestinians believe Israel should not be a state because the land is holy to them and they were living there before the Jews came and created the state of Israel. Therefore, the Jews believe that it is only fair if they have a place where they can belong while the Palestinians believe that it is only fair if they have a place where they can belong as well. Both sides are fighting for the right to belong, which both sides believe they deserve. If they both believe that they deserve the right to belong then they are fighting for the same thing, one’s right to belong and have a place called home. Since both sides desperately desire this place called home, shouldn’t they have more understanding for those who want the same thing?
The Israeli’s solution to this problem was to find a place they called home and completely claim it as their own. This only leads to the conflict today where the Palestinians feel as if their land was stolen from them and now attack the Israeli civilians to make their case known. On the contrary, the Palestinians solution is to completely rid Israel as a state by any means necessary and develop their own Palestinian state. If Israel were abolished and in place a Palestinian state came into power, then the Israeli’s would feel as the Palestinians do now. They would feel that they do not belong and their home no longer exists, which would create a tension as there is today. These “solutions” have not worked because each group has taken a completely one-sided approach which allows no room for others. The Israeli’s want all of Israel as their state even though Palestinians were living there before and this will leave the Palestinians feeling as if they have no home, and the Palestinians want there to be no Jewish state at all which will lead to the Jews feeling as if they have no home. These solutions can not work because both sides believe that everyone desires and deserves the right to belong and feel at home and yet each of their solutions leaves the other side feeling at a loss. Why is it that although both sides believe everyone is entitled to belong to a place they call home that neither of them is willing to let the other side feel that they belong? Would it not be fair to allow each people a separate state so as they each feel they belong?
