Departure Take 1: 5 PM: Rob just called Charlotte, and this is the summary of that conversation. Rob and others will also be calling all families tonight around 7 to pass on this news. Rob talked to Emily (who is in La Isla now), to one of Yesenia's relatives in La Isla, and to another of her relatives in Metapan today. They said that the mountains just got a little bit of rain, and everything is fine -- 85 degrees and sunny! The hurricane has passed through, and is on its way through the Gulf. The weather forecast there (and here) makes the beaches look like they've gotten hit hard, but the folks on the ground there say that really it is not so bad. The folks in Metapan do not anticipate any problem getting to San Salvador tomorrow to pick up the group, and no road problems driving them to Metapan. They also think getting them from Metapan to La Isla will be no problem. There may be heavy traffic on some of the roads, as those evacuated return to their homes on the beach, but the problems will not be related to flooding or washed out roads. The plans will be the same but a day later -- tomorrow night staying in Metaban, and the following day going to La Isla. The return trip to RDU will be as previously scheduled; it will not change. Rob asks everyone to again be at the airport at 5:30 AM tomorrow!
