Duke Threatens to Close Harvey's Website

August 15, 1998. Duke University's automatic warning systems went off has Campbell Harvey's Website went past the 10,000 hits per day mark. Duke has had trouble in the past with students posting information, so popular (like movie star pictures), that the server is slowed significantly. Fuqua staff have asked the central administration for an exemption for Harvey's site which is increasingly popular. His Financial Glossary now has over 2,500 words and is used an linked by Yahoo - the world's most hit site.


Rossiensky joins Fuqua Finance Group

June 1998. Nathalie Rossiensky will be joining the finance group in September 1998. Nathalie received her Ph.D. from the London Business School. He research area is financial intermediation and she will be teaching a course in the spring on financial intermediation. Fuqua has had this course on the books for a number of years - but it has not been staffed.


Harvey's Website Rated #1 Business-Economics Site by Lycos

September 5, 1997. Campbell Harvey's Website is featured in the Lycos Top 5% and received the #1 rating for Business-Economics sites. The site scored 72 on presentation 84 on content for an overall rating of 82. The next closest rating was 80. The site contains both the finance faculty homepage and the Fuqua Finance Club homepage.



Brav to join finance faculty

March 30, 1997. Alon Brav, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business has chosen to join the Fuqua faculty. Alon entertained offers from Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Rochester and Duke. Alon will teach the introductory Global Financial Management course in Spring 1998.



Schwarcz to teach course on structured finance in spring 97

November 26, 1996: Steven L. Schwarcz, Professor of Law, will be teaching a course in the law school on asset securitization. Professor Schwarcz has written numerous scholarly works and his monograph Structured Finance, A Guide to the Principles of Asset Securitization (3d edition forthcoming), is the most widely used book in the field of securitization and inventive commercial finance. This course is offered in the Law School but is open to business school students. See the course description in the finance homepage.

November 25, 1996: As many of the term III faculty as possible will be available to meet the students at 5pm in the Finance Club sponsored mixer.



Graham to join finance faculty

November 14, 1996: John Graham, an assistant professor at the University of Utah and a Fuqua Ph.D. 1993, will be joining our faculty on July 1, 1997. John's work on calculating the marginal tax rate for corporations has been widely recognized as outstanding. In 1996, he had three publications in the Journal of Financial Economics, one of the top journals in finance. John is an outstanding teacher as well as researcher and will be a great addition to our faculty.



Bradley wins Nationsbank Award

November 6, 1996: Michael Bradley was named this year's winner of the Nationsbank Faculty Award. This annual award recogizes outstanding contributions in research, teaching and service within the Fuqua School. You can reach Michael through his email, bradley@mail.duke.edu.



Viswanathan on leave at Wharton School

August 21, 1996: S. "Vish" Viswanathan is on leave for the next 18 months at the Wharton School. Vish is Associate Professor of Finance and a leader in the field of market microstructure research.
