| This deciduous shrub grows in the southern half of the Coastal Plain of North Carolina, where it is uncommon. It is similar to Fothergilla major of the Piedmont and Mountains, but has smaller leaves, smaller flowers, and grows in wet habitats instead of dry habitats. The leaves turn brilliant orange-red in fall. Also called Dwarf Witchalder. Pender Co., NC 4/23/06. |
