Interdisciplinary research is where
the present and future of science are.

Welcome to my home page !

I am working in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University as a Senior Research Scientist. My current work focuses on cellular biomechanics, particularly, on computational and in vitro studies of leukocyte (white blood cell) adhesion cascade. The leukocyte adhesion cascade is the multistep process of leukocyte recruitment to the site of inflammation. It consists of leukocyte margination (drift to the blood vessel walls), initial contact of the leukocyte with the activated endothelium, leukocyte rolling, firm adhesion and activation, and transendothelial migration. My current research interests are also in cardiovascular engineering and physiology (atherosclerosis, sickle cell anemia), medical ultrasound (shock-wave lithotripsy, contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging), and drug and gene delivery by liposomes and microbubbles.

This site gives an overview of my research and teaching activities, including my research statement and description of my current and past works, research projects , teaching interests, and other professional activities. You can find here my curriculum vitae, lists of honors and awards and society memberships, abstracts of my publications, and information about my recent experiments and numerical simulations. I will appreciate if you give your view on my research in the Guestbook or my blog.

If you wish to discuss my research and educational background in further detail, please e-mail me at damir@duke.edu or call me at +1 (919) 660-5558. Thank you for visiting my home page!

Sincerely yours,
Damir Khismatullin.
