"Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling . . . "
This is an old Irish ballad, a traditional song that my father (and, on occasion, some other folks in the mood to serenade me . . . ) always sung to me when I was a boy . . . well, actually, he still sings it to me :-). It's a song I will always cherish. Below you will find lyrics to the song and 10 versions of the song performed by different artists. To learn more about the artist and album, click on the album cover (the picture). A 30 second song clip is included in each artist's listing (except the last one - queen sang the song in concert but I have not been able to locate an actual recording of their rendition - if you know of one, please let me know!). To hear the song clip, just click on the name of the song, "danny boy." Have a listen . . . |

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow And if you come, when all the flowers are dying And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me I'll simply sleep in peace 'til you come home to me. |
