Dave Stecher's Home Page

My name is Dave Stecher, and I am from Portland Oregon. I have used computers since I can remember and always had to fix my parent's computer when they would break it. I always owned PCs growing up but I converted to macs when I came to college. I will never look back. I have used some linux too but am still a huge OS X fan. I use computers for all of my work every day and also for a lot of my entertainment that isn't athletic. I am not sure what exactly made me want to study Computer Science, but I always sort of knew that it is what I wanted to do. I think what a computer scientist does on a daily basis really depends on what their job is. They may be solving problems, but they could just as easily be a lawyer or a businessman. My worst programming experience of all time involved spending ten hours debugging a piece of code. The piece of code didn't work because of a semi-colon after an if statement. It was such a massive waste of time. My favorite programming project is my research. I like working on something that I feel like it is actually a piece of useful code and that somebody who isn't me may use it one day. I see myself using computers throughout the rest of my life for my job. I hope to diversify at some point and become a little less technical than I am now, but for now I am satisfied with the amount I use my computers.
