face I am a third-year graduate student in the History Department at Duke University, working under John French. I study modern Latin America, with fields in Bolivia, colonial Latin America, and Cultural Anthropology. I am interested in the intersections of class and race/ethnicity and the relationship between the state and groups identifying as indigenous.

My dissertation is tentatively entitled "Conscripting the State: Indigeneity and Gendered Citizenship in the Bolivian Barracks, 1907-1974." It will explore the Bolivian military barracks as a site of state formation and changing individual and collective identifications over the course of the twentieth-century.
