face I am a Ph.D. candidate in the History Department at Duke University, working under John D. French. I study modern Latin America with additional fields in colonial Latin America, and Cultural Anthropology. I am interested in the intersections of class and race/ethnicity and the relationship between the state and groups identifying as indigenous.

My dissertation is entitled "Conscript Nation: Authority and Belonging in the Bolivian Barracks, 1900-1958." It explores the Bolivian military barracks as a site of state formation and changing individual and collective identifications over the course of the twentieth-century.
