Introduction
Welcome to the homepage of the Health Behavior Neuroscience Research Program (HBNRP, formerly the Tobacco Research Laboratory) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University Medical Center. The HBNRP is Directed by F. Joseph (Joe) McClernon, Ph.D. a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
The mission of the HBNRP is to investigate the neural basis of behaviors that affect human health (e.g., addiction, nutrition, excercise) through the use of psychology, neuroscience and behavioral pharmacology theory and techniques. It is our hope that the results of our investigations will ultimately lead to more effective treatments for addiction and obesity.
The HBNRP is affiliated with a number of other researchers and their laboratories at Duke University including Jed Rose, Ph.D., Ed Levin Ph.D., Jeannie Beckham, Ph.D., Eric Westman, M.D., M.P.H., Scott Kollins, Ph.D., and Bernard Fuemmeler, Ph.D., M.P.H.
The HBNRP is also affiliated with other centers across Duke including the Duke Center for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation Research, the Duke University Center for Neuroeconomic Studies, the Duke University Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, the Duke-UNC Brain Imaging and Analysis Center, and the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences (DIBS).
