When multimedia imitate literacy the constraint of space comes into play. It is fairly obvious that electronic pages that too closely resemble printed pages are basically illegible. Experiment with font sizes. Watch what happens when a text passes the squinting threshold over into the “relax, sit back, and read” realm. The trade-off comes between information quantity and legibility. But quantity can be easily made up for in series of screens. Screens are not as expensive as parchment or paper. One does not have to economize.
