Saganaki
Greek fried cheese

Ingredienti


[ 250 g | 8 oz ] kasseri cheese
1 egg
flour for dredging
3 tbsp olive oil
1 lemon

Ricetta


Slice the cheese into [ 1 cm | 1/2 in ] slices. Whisk the egg in a bowl and dip then dip in the cheese. Dredge in the flour. Fry in olive oil until crusty and chestnut colored on both sides.

Squeeze lemon juice over the cheese and serve with pita.

Notes: some like to soak the cheese in ouzo before dredging (in which case, omit the egg).
A mild string cheese can be substituted for kasseri.
