I love to read. That hasn't always been the case. In grade school I had to be forced to read books. There was a flicker of interest in an occasional book, but that was rare and my disinterest quickly reasserted itself. I liked comic books. And that was my downfall, or salvation, depending on how you look at it. DC published an adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars in Weird Worlds. It was an "ok" adaption but I found I wanted more. I went looking for the real thing and found myself reading my way through the adventures of John Carter, Tarzan, Carson of Venus and just about everything the man had written. I read an adaptation of Doc Savage in a Marvel Comics title and then went looking for more. I found C. S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Robert A. Heinlein's Rocketship Galileo in the school library and never looked back. Books became a way to escape the pains of growing up and are now a release from the day to day bullshit of adaulthood. Reading is my addiction. At least I can get my fix at the library.
