NURSING INFORMATICS EXPERTS: WE NEED YOUR HELP

This is a request to collect your archival materials for the Nursing Informatics Collection which has been established at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) History of Medicine Division. The Nursing Informatics Collection initiative was started in the late 1990s by Dr. Virginia K, Saba who wanted to capture and preserve the historical information from our Nursing Informatics pioneers.

To date materials from Harriet Werley, Coralee Farlee, Kathy Mikan and several others have been transferred to the collection. Materials that would be appropriate for archival include those documents, pictures, videos that are over ten years old that would contribute to the body of informatics knowledge and history.

At this time, an archival initiative has been re-instituted by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), Nursing Informatics Working Group (NIWG). NIWG is soliciting archival materials from Nursing Informatics Experts who have documents that belong in the NI Collection.

First, the materials you wish to donate to the Nursing Informatics Collection at the NLM need to be reviewed. This can be done by sending information on the type, number, and other details describing your materials to Dr. Virginia K. Saba’s attention.  Click here to email Dr. Saba
Once a subcommittee reviews your material for appropriateness, they will send you an approval letter with the (a) Transfer Guidelines and (b) Deed of Gift forms.

Thank you for your commitment and support in capturing and preserving the history of Nursing Informatics.

Sincerely,

The American Medical Informatics Association’s Nursing Informatics Working Group
