Introduction

Welcome to the training site for the Preterm Birth PDA Project at Duke.
Welcome!

SNIP = Superb Nursing Informatics Program at Duke University!

What this web site will do:

If you look at the far left side of this screen, you will find  links to multiple PDA training modules.

These modules have been designed to assist you in learning necessary information about collecting data on a PDA, as well as helping  you develop a comfort level with using the PDA.

Selected data will be collected at prenatal visits.

  • Data will be entered into data collection forms on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
  • Data from the PDA will be sent to a centralized research database on a remote computer.

  • Data will be analyzed using data mining methods that can search for predictors of preterm birth risk.

Why this project is important:

Better preterm birth prediction is needed so that clinical decision support and interventions can improve outcomes for pregnant families.

  • We want to prolong gestation and deliver more full term babies.  Preterm birth is the leading cause of death in infants.
  • We want to reduce disparities in birth outcomes.  Rates are greater for Black mothers (17.7%) compared to Caucasian mothers (9.7%).
