Duke University
School of Nursing

Welcome

I came to Duke in 1996 and launched the world's first online informatics program in 1997. Our innovative Duke program promotes high standards of academic scholarship and clinical informatics practice, while permitting busy nurses to pursue master's, post-master's, and doctorate (DNP) education from almost anywhere on the planet. Find the link on the left of this screen for more information about the Informatics program. Informatics students engage in a rigorous program focused on clinical informatics within the context of issues, standards, theories, project management, and technology tools aimed at improving both patient care and nursing practice. Examples of student work are linked at the left of this screen; there are currently no plans to revise and update student projects, so please keep this in mind as you review older sites.

My academic role supports a mission that includes research, teaching, and service. My research has focused on data mining (machine learning) in search of predictors of preterm birth. My research interests also include patient privacy and health information technology (HIT) evaluation. I am currently involved in launching an HIT consumer advisory council for NCHICA (nchica.org), as part of my service work. My life aside from an academic role pursues music, gardening, stained glass, and quality time with family and friends. A summary of my research and publications is provided with the links at the left of this screen.

Contact

I prefer email over telephone tag, and find it fairly difficult to respond to all the email and phone messages that have overtaken most of us these days. I can't promise, but I will try to reply if you email me at linda.goodwin(at)duke.edu
