Resident Displacement (incorporating both city and county data)

Preliminary Thoughts:

The residents’ information is stored in a shapefile with a point feature class, with each point representing a parcel’s centroid.  The current parcel database did not contain several of the relocation properties; in this case, a new point was used to approximate the location.  The distribution appears random, but along major roads, especially Highway 11.  Land cover classes in Lenoir county are so scattered that some spatial analysis might be helpful in revealing trends that cannot be seen by the overlay.  As expected, residents did relocate to areas near farmland and forest, but a majority relocated in Kinston, the most developed city in the county.  The new parcels were mostly along highway 11, however existing parcels also may represent new construction/development.  Although I have not obtained parks and recreation data for the entire county, many relocated flood victims live far from the proposed green infrastructure sites.
