There have been few rivalries in professional sports that have lasted as long as the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees has. This has allowed the fans to have a great deal of history to look back upon. Whereas the Yankees history is rich in tradition, the Boston Red Sox history has been filled with disappointment. The rivalry remained strong through the years because of the Red Sox inability to overtake the Yankees and rise to the top of Major League Baseball's list of greatest organizations. Before the 2004 season, it had been 86 years since Boston had enjoyed the feelings of winning a World Series. For this, Boston fans have taken an enormous amount of abuse from Yankee fans. Despite the abuse, Red Sox fans have stuck by their team through it all, many claiming they won't die happy unless they witness a Red Sox World Series Championship. Both sets of fans, Yankees and Red Sox, have made their claim that they are the most loyal fans in the world, and no one argues their loyalty. But this begs the question: Does it matter that Yankee fans haven't been through the abuse and history of losing that Boston fans have dealt with? The only way to bring an end to the questions, and the abuse, would be if the Red Sox finally won a World Series. Now that that has happened, the baseball world will find out how loyal each sets of fans are.

Picture above: Yankee Stadium, the "House That Ruth Built", has been home to some of the greatest games in the history of baseball, but this past year it saw the greatest collapse the baseball world has ever seen. After taking a 3-0 lead in the best of seven American League Championship series, the Yankees dropped four straight games to the Boston Red Sox, becoming the first team ever to lose a series after being up 3-0.
