The anti-gay marriage side's argument is primarily based on bible. The bible teaches that the homosexual love is a sin. The bible defines the marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman. Most of Christians believe in bible. That's why many Christians refuse to accept homosexual marriage as a kind of legal marriages. However, only Christians believe in bible. Muslims and Buddhists have different kinds of beliefs. Not all religions have consistent definition of marriage. Polygamy, in which a husband can possess more than one wife, is allowed in Islamic countries. Following bible, polygamy is an obvious sin. Homosexuals' definition of marriage can be different from Christians' as Muslims do. The U.S. Constitution guarantees the religious freedom. Although Christians have right to live in a society, in which their religious freedom is guaranteed, Christians does not have right to force other people to believe in their belief.

The pro-gay marriage side's argument is primarily based on the 14 th amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The equal protection clause is "..nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." This law is not clear about 'any person'. The pro-gay marriage side uses the word 'any person' to support for homosexuals. The equal protection was ratified right after the Civil War to protect the rights of blacks. This clause helped women to gain their basic rights later. The gender and skin color are inherited quality, which is impossible to change. One can easily deduce that the law is for minorities having different inherited quality with majority. Homosexual marriage seems to be another kind of minority right issue. Homosexuals, however, are not born as homosexuals. They became homosexuals for some reason. Thus, homosexuality is not inherited quality. It is a 'behavior'. 14 th amendment cannot protect 'behavior' of individuals.

As time goes by, the marriage itself is losing its meaning. Many young couples decide to live together without marriage. Why legal marriage is such an important thing for homosexuals?
