Computer Science 4 is my first foray into this field. In fact, as a history major, I usually look into times where computer technology would have been science fiction at best. However, I do know how to operate certain computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel and various internet browsers. I have no experience using editors or any sort of programming devices; my use of Alice will be my first attempt at any sort of programming.
I am in this class because I recognize the importance of computers and the need to know how to use them more effectively. The prospect of creating programs is especially nice for me because I might be able to create some programs which could function as history educational tools (I plan on teaching history, probably at the college level). I may go on to take Computer Science 6, but seeing as I have no plans to take Calculus (Math 31L and Math 32L), I will probably only take this one course in the field. However, I would like to learn about the field outside of the classroom and further acquaint myself with programming techniques.
